Our Story and Mission

Back in August 2024, the BMA revealed statistics showing the state of mental health services across the NHS in England at present. The numbers painted a difficult picture of lack of resource, made worse by an ever-growing patient waiting list.

They stated that mental health services in England received a record 5m referrals during 2023 (up 33% from 2019), with the number of people in contact with mental health services steadily rising. However, services continue to be under-resourced to meet the increased demand, resulting in long waits and high thresholds for treatment, whilst latest estimates put the mental health waiting list at 1.2m people (2023).

Following the successful implementation and deployment of our NHS Emeritus bank, developed alongside NHSE to connect recently retired and peri-retired clinicians with NHS providers of acute care to help support the waiting list initiative, we wondered whether we could have the same positive impact in developing a similar bank for those clinicians retiring from vital mental health positions.

And so, the Liaison National Bank was created…

The Bank supports recently retired and peri-retired healthcare professionals to continue their service, leveraging their tenured experience to enhance clinical capacity and patient care.

Whilst much of the activity will be in-person, the Bank aims to make optimal use of technology, facilitating remote care when clinically appropriate. In this way, members of the Bank can work flexibly, fitting in as much or as little as they would like, around their other interests and commitments, whilst still support organisations, and patients, who require their knowledge and experience.
